In 1992, Sirio Sáinz, a business man, rallies organizer and eleven times participant at the Paris Dakar Rally and María Eugenia Caumel, economist, burocrat, passionate with travel and adventure, decided to open a small charming hotel.
In 1994 in a rainy day we discovered La Pereda. At that time we used to come to Niembro regularly, a small village close to LLanes, since we loved sea canoeing in the Cantabric coast. We were looking for a place where we could build a hotel away from the stress of Madrid. Having different backgrounds we had decided that running a hotel was the way to settle together. We love travelling and we thought that the hotel would allow as to do it more frequently.
At La Pereda we found the perfect place. A beautiful property of 17.000 sqm in which we could have a garden, animals and of course our dream hotel. The location was perfect, near the coast (only 3 km. from Llanes) at the foot of the mountain. The impressive profile of the Cuera range defining more than anything else its personality. In 1998 El Habana was born. It was named after a vessel.
